CFIA Canadian Aggregate Label Format
ReciPal now offers the aggregate format for Canadian labels (CFIA). The aggregate option can be used when different products are included together in one bundled pack. For example, a cereal bundle, a variety snack-sized chip pack, or a box of varied chocolates.
How it works
In most ways, the functionality is exactly the same as the FDA Aggregate label format.
From an existing recipe, you can select the Canadian Aggregate format as the label type. Next, you have the option to select other recipes that you want to be grouped together. The order you select these recipes will be the order that they appear on the label.
CFIA Canadian aggregate labels have more options than their US counterparts as you can customize them to be in English, French, or bilingual and change the order that the languages appear. To make fine-tuning your aggregate preferences even easier, we’ve included the ability to update the serving sizes directly from the label page. From the “Label style” dropdown you’ll see options to update the serving size of each recipe added to your label. You can switch between English and French by selecting the language you want from the top of the section.
One other difference between US and Canadian aggregate labels is that for the US it will show the number of servings per container, but Canadian labels don't include this. So there’s one less thing you have to worry about indicating.
💪Pro Tip -It may make sense to create a new recipe that is dedicated specifically for your aggregate label. Doing this makes it easier to find, organize, and edit your recipes later on.
In the example above, we created a new recipe for our “Cookie Collection (Vanilla, Strawberry, Chocolate). We turned the vanilla cookie recipe into a subrecipe and added that as the sole ingredient. We also selected “Combine ingredients from subrecipes” on the ingredient statement tab. Doing this makes sure “Vanilla cookie” isn’t listed in the ingredient statement and instead the ingredient statement just shows the sub components. While like this method, you can choose whatever works best for your situation!
Wrapping it up
The aggregate label format gives you more flexibility to mix and match products while conserving space on your packaging. We're excited to include this format in our line up as it creates even more parity between the label options available for Canada (CFIA) and the US (FDA). If there are other label types you'd like to see us tackle next, just let us know what you need.
