Small Updates To Ingredient Lists, Units and UI

Posted on December 17, 2015 by

We're always listening to your feedback and trying to make using ReciPal as simple and intuitive as possible. Some of our latest updates involve ingredients, where we've made a few smaller but very handy changes.

Creating Ingredients From the Dashboard

If you create an ingredient from the Dashboard, when you're finished you'll get taken back to the Dashboard rather than to the most recent recipe. While it makes sense to get back to a specific recipe when you're creating an ingredient from that recipe, it's not so helpful when you're creating ingredients independently or in bulk from your dashboard. Hopefully this change will be helpful for folks creating lots of ingredients at a time.

Ingredient Default Units

When you add an ingredient to a recipe, we'll check to see if you've used that ingredient before. If you have, ReciPal will automatically show the unit of measurement that you used last time you updated that ingredient in a recipe. So if your recipes normally call for pounds of flour, the software will choose pounds as the unit instead of whatever the default unit is.

We also made sure that all ingredients also have kilograms as a unit of measure. Makes things simpler than dealing in grams for large batches.

Creating and Setting Ingredient Lists

Now you can add the ingredient list or subingredient list for an ingredient when you create it instead of having to wait until you add it to your recipe.

Setting ingredient lists for nutrition labels

Now you can set the ingredient list right when you create an ingredient.

We've also gone through our database and set the ingredient lists for the most common ingredients in there. You can still customize how all of these ingredients show up on your label in the "display as" fields on the ingredient page of a recipe, but the defaults should be much better than the original ingredient names like "wheat flour, white, enriched, bleached".

Let us know what you think in the comments section and if there's anything else you'd like to see!
