New Feature: Nutrition Claims
Exciting news - ReciPal will now automatically list the nutritional claims your recipe qualifies for alongside your nutrition label! This is part of our grandiose plan to make your lives simpler as food entrepreneurs through our food label software.
It's not perfect because we don't gather all the possible information about your recipe, but it's pretty darned good. So, now you'll know when your recipe is considered "Low Fat" or "Calorie Free", among many other possible claims.
More About Nutritional Claims
Claims aren't required on your food packaging, but I'm sure you've heard the phrase 'If you got it, flaunt it'. So, you'll see the list of possible nutritional claims you qualify for, and you can choose the ones you'd like to include. Just make sure you read the notes alongside those claims, as there are some caveats.
If you want more info on making nutritional claims, we have a few links for you from the FDA here and here, in increasing order of wordiness/complexity. Probably worth reading if you're going to make a claim on your packaging.
There are still some claims that we can't automatically alert you of, primarily 'reduced' claims. That's because that type of claim relies on comparison to a reference recipe or product, which we can't automatically figure out. But you can do that research on your own for a reference product, and you probably already have that information if you're making, for example, a healthier brownie.
Other claims include health claims, for foods that help fight or prevent certain types of disease. More on that here.
Parting Words
Hopefully you understand a little bit more about nutrition claims and what is possible for your food product.
This is just one way we're trying to improve ReciPal everyday. If you have other ideas, just let us know.
