Recipe and Cost Template: How to Export Recipe Data | ReciPal
One of the things we've wanted to do for a while is to allow our users export their recipe data to Excel (or any spreadsheet for that matter).
You can't exactly export a whole nutrition label, but sometimes you want to get the data for whatever reason. After all, it's your recipe.
We developed a recipe and nutrition API, which can do that, but that's more for the developer community and not every food business has or needs a developer. Being able to export everything to Excel is something that a lot more of our users are comfortable with and makes their lives easier. We're all about that :)
Exporting Your Data
Whenever you see this button - - on one of your recipe pages, you can click it and download whatever is on that page to a CSV spreadsheet file. It will show up on each of the following pages:
- Ingredient List
- Costing
- Label
- Edit
- Nutrition Breakdown
- Also in the Recipe Actions menu on your Recipe Dashboard
Below we'll describe what happens on each page when you click the Download button, but you can also just click around and see what happens. Most of the pages will give you the option to download just the recipe data you're looking at or that data for all your recipes.
How it Works
The Ingredient List page will let you download each unique food ingredient and how it's displayed in your ingredient list across all your recipes. The format will be the same whether it's for that one recipe or all your recipes.
The Costing page will do the same, listing each unique ingredient (food or not) and it's price, purchase amount, and cost per pound (or hour, or hour if that's more appropriate for non-food ingredients). If exporting a single recipe's costing, you'll get more detail like total batch vs unit costs, food vs packaging vs labor breakdowns, and margins and pricing. This should prove useful if you're trying to make a more detailed cost spreadsheet than our recipe cost calculator allows.
The Nutrition Breakdown page just gives you the option for the one recipe, since it would be a whole lot of information in one spreadsheet listing out each ingredient in each recipe.
The Edit page just gives you the option for the one recipe as well, listing each ingredient, quantity, units, and recipe level information like packages and servings.
On the Label page you can export the information in the nutrition label or each of your recipe's nutrition data. It will include serving size data and all nutrient data. The format will be the same whether it's for that one recipe or all your recipes.
On the Recipe Dashboard you can export all the above information for each individual recipe.
Interesting Use Cases
One user recently asked us how to get the ingredients in all of his recipes so they could display it on their website. We ended up doing it manually for them, but now it's literally a click of a button away on the Ingredient List page.
You can do the same thing for each recipe's nutrition details or each ingredient's costs. Putting together a business plan for your food business? Simplify the process by exporting your recipe, costs, and nutrition information to one place.
Is there anything else you'd like to be able to download? I'm sure there's something we're missing and could improve on, so let us know.
